Which Kind Of Work Is Happy?

2007/8/10 14:59:00 41262

In order to find out where people's job satisfaction came from, I have had contact with two people in the past month.

The one who seems to me to have a great sense of satisfaction is Dario, the 59 year old chief driver of Ferrari (Ferrari).

Benuzzi (Dario Benuzzi), the other one, I don't think there's much satisfaction at all -- the 55 year old is the same.

Holzer (Isobel Hoare) is a soft drink tester of blackcurrant beverage Libinna (Ribena) produced by GlaxoSmithKline Co (GlaxoSmithKline).

Compared with the latter, I look forward to meeting the former for the reason that it is self-evident.

And Cameron?

Masseur or Bill of Diaz (Cameron Diaz)?

Like Bill Gates's bank manager, Ferrari's chief test driver sounds like the kind of job that is impossible and desirable for Gates.

Unfortunately, when I arrived at the headquarters of the car manufacturer in the northern city of malanello in Italy, when I was driving VW Polo on the Italy highway for three hours, I realized at once that I might be disappointed.

For some reason, I thought, as the headquarters of the company that produces the most beautiful cars in the world, the city should...

Um...

It's pretty.

But what Mara Nello feels is a huge industrial area.

When Dario appeared, he looked gloomy and dull.

When asked if he could take me for a driving test, he replied that he had no time.

I pretended not to be disappointed.

When he found that I could not speak Italian, my eyes turned around, and the subsequent interviews were not natural and artificial.

I ask questions in English ("how many hours do you work?")

He answered in detail in Italian, while Ferrari's public relations staff had short plations, almost without meaning (for example, "Dario said it depends on the situation").

This disappointment has always been with me until I return to London to read a full plation of the interview.

Though Dario expressed his love for his job, he didn't seem to be as happy as I thought.

When asked if he was doing the best job in the world, he replied, "people say so."

He is not really satisfied with his salary and condition.

He once said, "I earn as much money as an engineer."

He added that his car was not Ferrari, but Alpha Romeo (Alfa Romeo).

"But money is never enough."

On the contrary, I went to the Dean factory in the forest of Southwest England and visited Isobel.

As a member of the company's taste tasting team, she seems to love all aspects of her work.

The opinion of the taste tasting teacher helps to ensure the consistency of the taste.

In the morning, my experience at the factory started from a trial session.

I was taken to a small room first, and I got a sample of fruit juice, and I was asked to describe the taste as detailed as possible.

After five minutes of sniffing, sipping and thinking about the first sample, she described her feelings to colleagues.

"The sample is light red, free from gas, clean and reflective."

She began to say, "there are a few bubbles on the rim of the cup and then disperse gradually. After drinking, there is no residue in the cup wall. The sample seems to be similar to that of the clear water. It has mild flavour of blackcurrant candy and reminds me of red wine gum. In addition, it has a slight taste of artificial sweeteners. It has a mild sense of taste shock, moderate acidity and blackcurrant consumption. The entrance texture is similar to that of the water and has mild to mild dry feeling after the entrance. After drinking, it has mild sour taste, and there are mild to mild stickers and burning sensation in the throat.

I was surprised by Dario's lack of meaning, and what surprised me was that she could use so many words to describe so little content.

My own description of the sample is: "it looks like a dentist mouthwash, smells like bubble gum, and texture is like water."

This bad description can only mean that I belong to those 90% people who do not possess the qualifications required by the Bin Bin trial tasting teacher.

However, Isobel's enthusiasm for work was so deeply affecting me that when I left the factory, I thought, if I had the choice, I would rather try to drink the life of Li Bin, and do not rely on driving Ferrari to make a living.

In fact, these two meetings reveal something that is essentially related to job satisfaction, and experts do not seem to realize that.

According to the "happy industry", job satisfaction is an inherent characteristic of some occupations.

You may feel this way, or you may not.

Almost every week's report on the "happy industry" is trying to determine who belongs to the former (the recent report is hairstylist) and who is the latter (obviously lawyers and architects).

Recently, an academic research has done its best to list the criteria for making people happy, such as good treatment, reasonable working hours and promotion prospects.

However, as Dario and izer Baer showed, this is not the true meaning of job satisfaction.

It is very likely that some people have a dream job but they are not happy, while others are very unhappy in their work.

There is no science in terms of job satisfaction: just different people, at different times, have different needs.

No doubt, Dario, who joined Ferrari in 1971, was very satisfied with his work in a certain period.

However, what he hoped to get from his job at the age of 40 may differ from his retirement.

In fact, the problem of job satisfaction is that we have different feelings about work at different times. It depends on the emerging standards, such as our mood, salary, whether we like to sit around our colleagues, and how long we are away from the next vacation.

As far as I am concerned, the vacation is not too far away.
