From July 2006, European legislation will declare that the production of environmentally friendly fluorinated hydrocarbon soles is illegal. This will mean that the commonly used physical foaming agent will no longer be used. This foaming agent has the characteristics of ozone depletion.

Huntsman always avoids using physical foaming agents in shoes, but relies entirely on water foaming technology to avoid using solvents completely. At present, Huntsman's elastomers have further developed the concept and proposed an environmentally friendly alternative to improve performance, which will enable footwear manufacturers to maintain high quality production standards and continue to produce more durable soles.

Huntsman polyurethane Footwear Group has also developed a new elastomer that can substantially reduce weight during the production of low density shoe sole interlayer. The shoe interlayer is applied to industrial boots that must meet CEN European safety testing. In addition, this new elastomer is the first product that can be processed on a conventional direct injection molding machine in its class. SUPRASEC technology provides good adhesion to polyurethane, thermoplastic polyurethane and outer soles to help customers develop lightweight and comfortable shoes and boots while reducing the amount of raw materials needed and reducing overall production costs.
