Croatia Set Up Leather And Footwear Committee
An agreement was signed by representatives of the government of Croatia, owners and trade unions to form a Social Committee for textiles, leather, footwear and rubber industries. In Croatia, this is the first committee of this kind, which will engage in social dialogue at the industrial level. The committee will consist of 7 representatives from the textile and leather industries association, the textile, leather, footwear and Rubber Industries Association, from the Ministry of economy, labour and enterprise, the Croatia Employees Association.
The main purpose of such a committee is to approach the problems of these weaker industrial sectors.
The establishment of the Social Commission for textile, leather, footwear and rubber industries will become a model for the establishment of more such committees in other industrial sectors.
Such a committee will provide assistance to the implementation of the economic recovery plan. The Prime Minister of Croatia recently introduced the economic recovery plan.
These committees are based on the European Union mode of cooperation with social partners.
According to the EU model, there are about 30 such committees in the European Union.
The establishment of the first social committee at the level of an industrial sector is of profound significance, because the sector faces several problems, such as operating losses, declining production and massive unemployment.
Similar committees for other sectors, such as wood processing, factories and printing sectors, will soon be established.
