Visual Communication Department Experience Subcultural Art By Shuttle Time And Space

Eugene Tan and Bruno Porto, teacher of visual communication department at Donghua University Raffles School of international design, have led 30 students of Grade 10 to visit the Shanghai posters Art Center in Huashan Road, Shanghai. In this art center, students roam in the past time, savor the twentieth Century Chinese historical characteristics and charm.

The organizer of the event, Yang Pei Ming, is a collector of antique posters. She collects and collects more than 6000 rare posters and pictures with historical characteristics. These valuable materials reflect the unique cultural characteristics and folk customs of China in different historical periods. Donghua Raffles graphic design and multimedia design students are conducting research on Chinese subculture, including art, sports, music and various collectibles. The collection of Yang Pei Ming not only provides a platform for discussion among Donghua Raffles students, but also provides intuitive materials for students' research and research.

Under the guidance of teacher Raffles in Donghua, the students paid attention to the big character poster in the art center and the advertising pictures in the 20s of last century. Mr. Yang Pei Ming also held a small lecture for the students and introduced the valuable historical documents to the students in detail. The students also understand the essence of subculture in the study of collections.

During the visit, the Raffles students in Donghua began to appreciate the social significance and the changes of the times from the simple graphic images, and also appreciate the evolution of the design style in different historical periods. The students moved the classroom to the gallery, and through the direct communication with artists, they had a better understanding of Chinese art and culture. They also converted the monotonous theoretical knowledge into vivid example teaching, and absorbed a wealth of learning experience and harvest in a relaxed atmosphere.
