The Sale Of LV, Dior And Other Brand-Name Counterfeit Products Ebay Was Awarded 40 Million Euros.
A court in Paris, France, ruled in June 30th that eBay, the online auction giant, was responsible for the compensation of nearly 40 million euros to users through the sale of counterfeit products such as Louis Weedon.
The lawsuit was brought to the Paris Commercial Court about a year and a half ago by luxury goods companies such as the French luxury goods giant LVMH group, which sued the electronic harbor to take charge of the brand name handbags, clothing and perfume products sold by its users online.
The court ruled that eBay should pay 19 million 280 thousand euros and 17 million 300 thousand euros to LVMH and its sister firm Christine Dio clothing company respectively to compensate for the damage to the brand image of the two enterprises.
The court also ruled that the electronic harbor should pay 3 million 250 thousand euros in compensation to 4 perfume manufacturers, such as Christine Dio, KENZO, Givenchy and Guerlain, in order to sell related products without obtaining sales permission.
The court also prohibited electronic harbors from putting up these brands of cosmetics and perfume advertisements on their websites.
The electronic harbor said it would appeal.
Electronic harbor is the largest auction website in the world.
Sales achieved through its platform in 2007 were close to US $60 billion.
