But Zhongshan's Weili Textile Co., Ltd., an export-oriented enterprise that runs traditional industries, relies on reform and innovation and hard work in internal strength.

Wei Li, a person in charge, told reporters yesterday: in difficult times, enterprises should seek development and bear social responsibilities. Our company does not write "redundancy" two words.

Wei Li started business in three villages and towns in Zhongshan 15 years ago, specializing in producing ball caps including various kinds of teams such as NBA, American Baseball Association and so on. Kobe, Yao Ming and other NBA giants wear their caps from Wei Li.

At present, there are nearly 5000 employees in the company, and last year they produced and sold more than 30 million hats, which is the largest hat manufacturer in Asia.

"What we do is the real top business."

Zhan Yixiang, manager of Weili research and development department, said humorously, "when we entered the three rural areas in 1993, there was only one production line, with 24 existing production lines, and the scale of enterprises increased by 10 times."

In the financial tsunami, the impact of traditional industries and export-oriented processing enterprises bears the brunt. Why is Zhongshan Wei Li able to "laugh and feel cold"?

It is understood that Wei Li has been carrying out technological innovation in recent years, introducing advanced production equipment, eliminating traditional technology, reducing production costs and shortening production time.

Zhan Yixiang said, "before it is cut from cloth to produce products, it takes a week, and now products can be seen in two hours."

In order to grab "fast", Wei Li has set up a R & D team of more than 300 people, specializing in developing new products.

In the quarter, there are thousands of different styles and highly personalized products to provide customers with choices to meet the needs of different consumer groups.

With the spread of financial tsunami, it is inevitable that Weili, which produces 100% exports, will be affected.

Zhan Yixiang admits that information indicates that orders for Wei Li may drop by 20% in the second quarter of this year.

"We also feel an unprecedented pressure."

In response to the impact of the financial crisis, Wei Li, while adhering to the progress of science and technology, made strategic adjustments: that is, using his resources to expand the range of products -- not only sports helmets, but also horse hair caps, winter hats, socks and even sweaters, so as to diversify products and seek more space in the economic crisis.

"We are working hard to deal with it, and even if we have difficulties, we have never thought of layoffs."

Zhan Yixiang said, "to retain workers is to keep factories. We can not only lay off workers and reduce salaries, but we should try our best to retain workers and improve their welfare benefits."
