The lint yield is estimated at 297 thousand tons (including 23 thousand tons of long staple cotton).

The quantity available for export is about 215 thousand tons, and domestic consumption is 82 thousand tons.

Production in 2009/10 is expected to remain unchanged.

The total output is about 300 thousand tons, of which 100 thousand tons are used for domestic consumption.

There are still about 50 thousand tons of origin left unsold.

According to the current international cotton prices, cotton growers are unable to repay loans from local banks.

Because Tajik's cotton sales policy is opaque, the purchase intention of its cotton is reduced.

In 2009/10, the Ministry of agriculture estimated that the area of cotton would be 202 thousand hectares.

However, there is still some doubt as to whether this goal can be achieved because of the shortage of farmers' funds.

Despite several projects to promote the development of local textile industry, cotton consumption in the next year is expected to be less than 10 thousand tons.

At present, about 250 thousand tons have been exported.

There are still about 400 thousand tons for sale.

As farmers tend to other crops, the cotton planting area in 2009/10 is expected to decrease.

It is not easy to say whether the total output will be reduced accordingly.
